The role building HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems have in the spread of the virus continues to evolve. What we do know is that it is not possible to eliminate the risk of transmission solely by modifying the building systems. Social distancing, wearing masks, and washing your hands, based on current information, reduces the risk of virus transmission more than modifications to the building systems. However, there are improvements that can be made in the design and operation of systems that can reduce the risk.
Type of filtration, relative humidity, quantity of ventilation air, quality of ventilation air and quality of recirculated air can each impact the indoor air quality within the occupied space. Improving each of these will result in a healthier environment for the building occupants.
