Considerations due to COVID-19

In the wake of COVID-19, KTA is focused, more now than ever, on how our design of commercial buildings can impact the health and wellbeing of the occupants. KTA continues to monitor the information released by organizations such the CDC to better understand how COVID-19 is transmitted and how building systems may contribute to this transmission.

The role building HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems have in the spread of the virus continues to evolve. What we do know is that it is not possible to eliminate the risk of transmission solely by modifying the building systems. Social distancing, wearing masks, and washing your hands, based on current information, reduces the risk of virus transmission more than modifications to the building systems. However, there are improvements that can be made in the design and operation of systems that can reduce the risk.

Type of filtration, relative humidity, quantity of ventilation air, quality of ventilation air and quality of recirculated air can each impact the indoor air quality within the occupied space. Improving each of these will result in a healthier environment for the building occupants.

Not every building is the same. System and operational modifications must be tailored for each building to have a positive impact on indoor air quality. This is where KTA can help you. We continue to evaluate how current and emerging technologies, such as filtration, humidification, UV irradiation, bipolar ionization; and dry hydrogen peroxide can improve the quality of the occupied environment.

KTA can provide consultation and facility assessments to assist you in determining what applications are most suitable for your facility. We can also help inform your employees and tenants how the investment you make improves the indoor air quality, and how it may reduce the risk of the spread of COVID-19.

Our goal is to provide a healthier environment, so your employees and tenants are comfortable returning to the workplace.
